ASTRO 25 is a digital signaling protocol that is compliant with the APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) Project 25 (P25) Common Air Interface and is used for certain Trunking Systems, and therefore for certain Trunking Personalities (see also Type II and SmartZone). As with Type II Trunking, ASTRO 25 Trunking allows you to set up Talkgroups, Announcement Groups, and Dynamic Regroupings as Trunking channels; however, ASTRO 25's full integration with Project 25 standards-based networks significantly improves on features such as capacity, interoperability, narrow-banding and IP connectivity.

"ASTRO® 25 IV&D" (Integrated Voice & Data) Trunking Systems use a 9600 baud control channel, with digital FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) voice channels, and FDMA data channels. Each radio uses the Home WACN ID, the System ID, and the Unit ID to identify itself to the FNE (Fixed Network Equipment) when performing registration and authentication. |
